Flexible Electrical Wire for Home Wiring - FAQs
A flexible wire uses a Class 5 or Class 6 conductor with many fine copper strands, which makes it much easier to bend and pull through tight conduit runs. Standard rigid house wires usually use Class 1 or Class 2 conductors with fewer, thicker strands. For modular switchboards, panel internal wiring and tight conduit bends, electricians in Punjab and Haryana generally prefer flexible wire.
Flexible wires are ideal for control panels, modular switchboards, internal wiring of equipment, AC and geyser points, and any situation where the cable is bent multiple times during installation. They are also used in shop and office wiring where conduit paths are complex. Use the same size guidance as house wire - 1.0 sq.mm for lights, 2.5 sq.mm for sockets, and 4.0 sq.mm for higher loads.
The flexible range is available in 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 and 4.0 sq.mm. Smaller sizes (0.5–1.0 sq.mm) are usually used for control wiring, lighting and signal applications; 2.5 and 4.0 sq.mm are used for sockets and higher-load circuits.
